What to put on a custom banner
If you’re in charge of ordering a custom banner for the first time, you’re probably wondering what information you should print on your banner. Have no fear — here are some simple guidelines to help you choose what to put on your banner!
New business banners
If you want to advertise a new business on your banner, the first thing to remember is to keep it simple. Typically you’ll want to include your business name, a short summary of what you do, and possibly a phone number or website. If you know what day you’ll be opening, you can put that at the bottom of the banner so people know when they’ll be able to come see your store.
Celebration banners
For birthday banners or anniversary banners, it’s pretty easy: just put the person’s name and some graphics on the banner. For an anniversary banner, it’s nice when you can include a picture of the happy couple. For a birthday banner, you might want to include clipart of balloons or cake. Don’t just settle for the first banner template you see — make sure the theme of the design matches the theme of your party. For an over the hill birthday, you might want a black background and R.I.P. clipart on your banner, but you sure wouldn’t want those on an anniversary banner!
New management banners
Use a simple but friendly font on your banner, like Briquet, to simply say “Under new management.” You might also want to include your store name at the top of the banner, or a new phone number or website where people can get more information. You’ll want a medium-sized banner, such as a 2×8, so people can read the banner but it is not overwhelming.
Event banners
It’s easy to get carried away putting every single detail on a banner. But banners are supposed to get across a basic message — if people want to know more, they should be able to check somewhere else. If you crowd a banner with the event name, organizer, location, dates, times, contact information, and lots of specific details like classes being held at the event, no one will take the time to read it. So emphasize the type of event — “Vacation Bible School” is much better for a banner than the particular name of this year’s VBS theme — and then put very basic information like the date and time (June 14-19, 8pm). You can also include a website or phone number people can check for more information.
If you’re still not sure, don’t be afraid to go ahead and order a banner. If you ask for advice, a good custom banner company will be happy to help you decide what is the most important information on the banner and what you could leave off in order to make the banner easier to read. They can also look over the information you want on your banner and help you choose the best size for your needs.
